9/6/2021 - Minnesota COVID-19 Vaccination Breakthrough Data - 45% Cases, 38% Hospitalizations and 41% Deaths Over The Last Seven Days
Vaccination Breakthrough Data in Minnesota
In Minnesota
The Minnesota(MN) Department of Health is tracking vaccine based breakthrough infections, but they do not present data in such a way that it is meaningful. In addition we have a systemic problem of tracking vaccination breakthrough cases in the United States, leading to faulty policy decisions on non-existent data. See Vaccination efficacy - 95%, 95%, 95% or less than 16% and waning???
Please note: Due to lack of information from MN, weekly snapshot only and labor day holiday. I believe we ran 7 day average over 8 days of data, making the results seemingly higher.
Minnesota Public Health data from the last seven days (9/1/2021)
3,260 new vaccination breakthrough cases
45% of cases were vaccination breakthrough
38% of hospitalizations were breakthrough
41% of deaths were breakthrough.
As you may recall, last week the International Business Times reported 30% of COVID-19 infections were vaccination breakthroughs in MN.
In this last 7 day period, Minnesota had a 15% increase in vaccination breakthrough cases week over week. In this time period the vaccination breakthroughs increased from 30% to 45% and this trend appears very concerning. A 15% increase week over week is looking more like the explosive growth in Israel data.

Explanation of the Minnesota Math
Minnesota Department of Health releases data every 7 days typically on Monday. In tracking the data I am now tracking week to week increases. The data is tracked in all three of those categories (cases, hospitalization, deaths) and then on each subsequent Monday, I can can figure out the weekly increase as new data is published. Secondly, I go back to a different website where the Minnesota Department of Health provides a data table for cumulative active cases, hospitalizations, deaths over the previous 7 day period. (links included below).
I believe my calculation is accurate based on our limited information and access to the data (see data below). For the most accurate data, I would prefer MN to do the calculation and show the data, however for some reason this data is suppressed and unavailable.
